Bernard Joseph Steinkamp  1869-1947

Funeral service for Bernard Steinkamp, 78, who passed away at his home here at 9:30 Monday morning, following a month's illness, with heart trouble and complications were held at 9 o'clock this morning at St. Bernard's church in Breda. The Rev. E.L. Schleyer offered the requiem mass. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Merlin Steinkamp, Raymond Steinkamp, Edward Steinkamp, LaVerdes Reis, Myron Reis and Duane Ludwig.

Mr. Steinkamp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steinkamp, was born March 5, 1869, in Westphalen, Germany. He came to this country at the age of 21, and settled in Sac county, moving from there to Carroll county.

He was married June2, 1891, to Miss Elizabeth Boes at St. Bernard church in Breda, with the late Rev. Fr. Conrad Schulte officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Steinkamp established their home on a farm northwest of here, where they lived until their retirement 16 years ago. They moved into their home here at that time.

They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in June, 1941.

Mr. Steinkamp was a member of St. Bernard church and the Holy Name Society of the parish.

Surviving are his wife, six children: Frank Steinkamp, Arcadia, Mrs. Joe Reis, Caroline, Carroll; Ted Steinkamp, Wall Lake; Mrs. Frank Thobe, Julia, Lytton; Lawrence Steinkamp, Wall Lake, and Mrs. Paul Terlisner, Cornelia, Arcadia; one brother, Ferdinand Steinkamp Breda, and one sister, Mrs. George Osterholt of Carroll.

He also leaves 39 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Three children are deceased: Mrs. Tony Ludwig, Ida, who died in January, 1937, Teresa, at the age of three years and Annie, in infancy.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Barney Osterholt, of Breda, and Mrs. Gerd Hatting of Wall Lake.
