Fred H. Thelen 1907-1998

Mass of the Christian burial for Fred H. Thelen of Breda will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 1998, at St. Bernard Church in Breda.

Mr. Thelen, 90, died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

The Revs. James Smith and Marvin Boes will officiate the Mass. Lectors will be Kristy Liechti and Lori Ehlers and mass server will be Kevin Liechti. Gift bearers will be Jay Liechti and Steven Thelen and Eucharistic ministers will be Earl and Ray Boes.

Casket bearers will be Jeff Thelen, Brian Thelen, Scott Thelen, Joe Thelen, ion Thelen and Eric Brincks. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda.

Friends will call after 2:30 p.m. Friday and a rosary will he recited by the Breda Senior Citizen Club at 3 at Stow Funeral Home in Breda. A 7:30 p.m., rosary will be recited by the Catholic Order of Foresters and. the parish will hold a Christian wake service at 8; 15 at the funeral home.

A son of Nick and Katherine (Julich) Thelen, be was born July 18, 1907, at Breda. He graduated from St. Bernard High School in 1928 and spent his lifetime farming near the Breda community.

He and Mathilda Boes were married on Sept. 3, 1935, at St. Bernard Church in Breda and the couple farmed northeast of Breda. Mr. Thelen retired in 1972.

He was a member of St. Bernard Parish, a 50-year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Breda Senior Citizen Club. Mr. Thelen served as township assessor for Kniest and Wheatland townships for 20 years and served on the FH A committee for three years.

Survivors include his wife, Mathilda, of Carroll; four daughters, Mary Kay Brincks and her husband, Vernon (Lefty) of Carroll, Jean Gleason of Pee Wee, Ky., Diane Mandel and her husband, Jerry, of San Jose, Calif., and Deborah Thelen of Moline, 111.; five sons, Howard Thelen and his wife, Charlene, of Omaha, Neb.. Ronald Thelen and his wife, Mary, of Fredricksburg, Va., Dale Thelen and his wife, Vernell, of Overland Park, Kans., Mark Thelen and his wife, Linda, of Breda and Gary Thelen and his wife, Linda, of Circle Pine, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Thelen and his wife, Alma, of Clarissa, Minn, and Engelbert Thelen of Estherville; and three sisters, Hilaria Bernholtz of Carroll, Helen Kelly of Lake View and Leona McCaffrey and her husband, Don, of Carroll.

Mr. Thelen was preceded in death, by his parents, three brothers, John Thelen, Math Thelen and a twin brother, at birth; four sisters, Marie Thelen, Julia Neppl, Appolonia Neppl and Martha Heinrichs; and a step-granddaughter, Ronda Downey.
