BREDA—Laura Boes, 97, of Breda, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda with Mrs. Boes' son, the Rev. Clair Boes, and the Rev. Joe Dillinger concelebrating. Lector will be a granddaughter, Catherine Pudenz. Gift bearers will be daughters: Myrna Snyder, Carol Malone and Susan Schreier. Servers will be Miriah Masching, Matt Koster and Matt Wessling.

Casket bearers will be sons: Duane Boes, Dennis Boes, Ardel Boes, Eldon Boes and Merlin Boes, and son-in-law, Dennis Schreier.

Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery at Breda.

Visitation started at 3:30 and the St. Bernard Ladies Guild led a rosary at 4 this afternoon at the church. There will be a Christian wake service at t tonight at the church. Visitation will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Sharp Funeral Home of Breda is in charge of arrangements.

A daughter of Hilary and Eugenia (Studer) Engel, she was born May 16, 1911, at Carnarvon, grew up there, attended rural school and Wall Lake School, graduated from St. Angela Academy in Carroll then did domestic work in the area.

She and William M. Boes were married May 17, 1932, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake with Rev. Slattery officiating.

The Boeses farmed northwest of Breda until 1979 then moved into Breda. Mrs. Boes moved to Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Carroll in November 2008.

She was a member of St. Bernard Parish and Ladies Guild, was devoted to the Blessed Mother and enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking, flowers, gardening, playing cards and traveling with her husband.

Survivors include nine children and their spouses: Myrna and Clair Snyder of Breda, Duane Boes of Fort Collins, Colo., Dennis and Jan Boes of St. Louis, Miss., Ardel and Mary Boes of Golden, Colo., the Rev. Clair Boes of Rockwell City, Eldon and Joan Boes of Alexandria, Va., Carol Malone of Omaha, Neb., Merlin and Connie Boes of Austin, Minn., and Susan and Dennis Schreier of Roscoe, Ill.; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two sisters: Viola Johnson of Carroll, and Alma Cejka of Pocahontas.

Mrs. Boes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, in 1998; two grandchildren: Brett Boes and Chad Malone; a son-in-law, Barry Malone; a daughter-in-law, Joan Boes; a sister, Esther Reising; and three brothers: Raymond, Vernon, and Lawrence Engel
