Marvin C. Nieland 1932-2006

Marvin Nieland, 73, of Auburn died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at Carroll Health Center.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Auburn with the Rev. Larry McCarty presiding.

Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery north of Auburn with military honors by the Auburn American Legion.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.

A son of John and Rose (Freking) Nieland, he was born May 29, 1932, at Carroll and graduated from Lake City High School in 1951. He joined the Navy in April 1952 and was discharged four years later. He spent three months at home then joined the Air Force, serving until January 1974.

Following his discharge he worked at Noble Manufacturing in Sac City until it closed.

He enjoyed farming and helped area farmers during planting and harvest seasons. His hobby was antique John Deere tractors, and he owned four of them.

Survivors include a sister, Velma Nieland, of Auburn; a brother, Robert Nieland, of Eldridge; and nieces and nephews.
