Michael Thomas Becker 1942-1991

Michael Thomas Becker, 48, of Des Moines, died of pneumonia Sunday, Jan. 27, 1991, at Des Moines General Hospital.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Afton, with the Rev. Howard Fitzgerald officiating. Burial was at St. Edward Cemetery in Afton.

Born Aug. 8, 1942, in Carroll, Mr. Becker was a son of William and Amelia (Reising) Becker. He attended schools in Breda, Thayer and Lorimor and graduated from East Union High School in 1961.

After serving with the U.S. Army in Germany as a radio carrier operator for three years, he returned to live in Perry for two years. He then moved to Des Moines where he was employed by the VGC/Litho Co. in graphic arts sales and service.

On Sept. 25, 1965, he married Eileen Bacon at Afton.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Des Moines and the Iowa National Guard and the U. S. Army Reserves.

Mr. Becker is survived by his wife, Eileen, of Des Moines; his daughter Janice, of Ames; his father William Becker, of Perry; three sisters, Helen (Mrs. Wilbur) Wolterman of Carroll, Clarita (Mrs. Richard) Roth of Spencer and Phyllis (Mrs. Verlin) Danner of Glidden; and nine brothers and their wives, Art and Dot Becker of Dunlap, Bob and Joanne Becker of Carroll, Bill and Mary Lou Becker of Afton, John and Mara Becker of Afton, Zenas and Loa Becker of Carroll, Jerry and Vicki Becker of Glidden, Allen and Joanne Becker of Perry, Gary and Maureen Becker of Perry and Gene and Kay Becker of Pomeroy.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and infant son, Timothy Bruce, in 1968; and a sister.
