AUBURN—Mass of the Christian burial for Rose Nieland of Auburn will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at St. Mary Church in Auburn.

Mrs. Nieland, 94, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City.

The Revs. Mark Harrington and Merlin Schrad will officiate the Mass.

A daughter of Clem and Lena (Grueterman) Freking, she was born Jan. 3, 1904, at LeMars. Her family moved to Breda and she attended St. Bernard Schools there. After completing her education she worked at home and as a hired hand.

She and John S. Nieland were married Nov. 25, 1930, at St. Bernard Church in Breda.

She was a member of St. Mary Parish of Auburn and its Alter Society.

Survivors include two sons: Marvin Nieland of Auburn and Robert Nieland of Davenport; a daughter, Velma Nieland of Auburn; a sister Clara Huegerich of Storm Lake; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nieland was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a son LaVerne; three brothers; Albert, Arnold and henry Freking; three sisters: Cecilia, Marie and Julie Freking; and two stepbrothers; Julius and Joe Schroeder.
